Global Change and the World’s Mountains International Conference

immagine

Next Autumn, on September 26-30, 2010, in Perth, Scotland, the open science international conference on “Global Change and the World’s Mountains” will be organized.

As recognized within the IPCC 2007, mountain systems are particularly fragile, and subjected to both natural and anthropogenic drivers of change. In particular, in the last decades climate change effects are altering the whole mountain ecosystem equilibrium with negative consequences on natural resources availability and on human’s life with significant changes on economic system too.

This conference organized by the Centre for Mountain Studies (CMS) at Perth College UHI, in collaboration with the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) and endorsed by the Global Land Project of the IGBP and IHDP, UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) programme, and the Commission on Mountain Response to Global Change of the International Geographical Union, will bring scientists from around the world to Perth.

In this occasion and on behalf of Ev-K2-CNR, Dr. Gianni Tartari, Chair of CEOP-HE Working Group will organize a session concerning “High Elevation Climate” to discuss on climate change effects in mountain areas, and particularly on the negative impacts of these changes in remote areas considered a vital water source.
Researchers, taking part to this session, are invited to present the activities carried out in these regions and main achieved results in order to share knowledge and plan future mitigation strategy.

If you are interested in attending this session please, read the call for paper and don’t forget the deadlines below:

March 1, 2010: deadline for paper/poster submissions
