Mountains: energy, water and food for life.The SHARE project: understanding the impacts of climate change
The Ev-K2-CNR Committee, the National Research Council, the City of Milan - Municipal Commission for Mobility, Transportation and the Environment, the 2015 World Expo Committee in collaboration with UNEP and with the technical cooperation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations are pleased to announce the International Conference :“Mountains: energy, water and food for life. The SHARE project: understanding the impacts of climate change” which will take place in the historical Serbelloni Palace, venue of the Press Club of Milan on May 27-28, 2009.
The Conference, which received a patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy, of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Environment, Education, University and Research as well as of Lombardy Region , will bring together the world’s top experts on themes such as atmosphere, climate, water, glaciers, agriculture and biodiversity, while taking stock of policies on development, health, energy and food security, to discuss the role of mountains as early indicators of climate change, and the impact of global warming on mountain ecosystem services.
With this opportunity, it will be also illustrated the phase II of SHARE (Stations at High Altitude for Research on the Environment) Project and its contributions to management-oriented research on climate change and mountain environments. SHARE is a project promoted by the Ev-K2-CNR Committee, for the scientific and technological research aimed at studying and monitoring environment and climate in mountain areas.
The SHARE Project has been already included by the United Nations, together with the UNEP and UNFCCC agencies, the WMO, the IGBP, the GEO, the inter-institutional partnership desired by the G8 and NASA, in their programs – ABC, GAW, IGAC, GEWEX/CEOP, AERONET, acknowledging its value and the uniqueness as far as monitoring and environmental research are concerned.
The event aims at contributing to the understanding of current and future climate change processes, so as to predict possible environmental, economic and social impacts, in particular on agriculture, trade and the health and wellbeing of millions. By promoting management-oriented research, driven by decision makers in line with local sustainable development needs, demonstrating Italy’s commitment in this sense through the SHARE project and promoting dialogue and exchange amongst international studies, networks and programs.
