19-21 August 2009, Melbourne, Australia
On August 19-21, 2009, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), in Melbourne, Australia hosted the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Coordinated Energy and water cycle Observations Project (CEOP). The main objective of the meeting, chaired by CEOP’s Co-Chairs Toshio Koike (University of Tokyo) and Ronald Stewart (Department of Environment and Geography, University of Manitoba), was to clarify the key objectives of new CEOP going forward in order to respond to a review of progress and plans within the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and its core project the Global Energy and Water-cycle Experiment (GEWEX).
Koike and Stewart opened this meeting with a brief introduction on meeting objectives and presented the status of new CEOP including achievements, future issues and plans.
These speeches were followed by a discussion about CEOP role in WCRP, its interaction with GEWEX and its crosscutting strategy including connections to other Project like AMMA (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses) and CEOP HAP (Hydrologic Applications Project).
Special sessions dedicated to each CEOP elements (Regional Hydroclimate Projects, Regional Climate Foci, Crosscutting Science Studies and CEOP Modeling, CEOP Data Management), were held from August 19 to 21. During these days representatives of each CEOP group showed background and objectives, state-of-the-art ,ongoing actions, future plans and perspectives of their activities.
